Gli Helmet sono un gruppo alternative metal statunitense formatosi a New York nel 1989 dall’unione del chitarrista/cantante Page Hamilton, del bassista Henry Bogdan, del chitarrista Peter Mengede e del batterista John Stanier.
“Seeing Eye Dog”, è il settimo album degli HELMET, ed è una delle loro uscite più ambiziose e lontane da qualsiasi compromesso.
All’interno si ritrova il classico e unico sound degli Helmet spinto verso territori mai esplorati prima. Una delle ragioni che ha portato alla creazione di questo tipo di album è che è essenzialmente self-released (tramite la Work Song label).
“I just felt completely free to do whatever I wanted to do,” dice Page Hamilton, frontman degli Helmet “It was really fun to make this record because I just felt this…freedom.”
“This album is human and honest. People have always commented that we sound like our albums live, and our recording approach has a lot to do with that. Humans playing music will always be better than chop-shop rock.”
Insieme ad Hamilton suonano in “Seeing Eye Dog”, Kyle Stevenson (drummer), Dan Beeman (chitarra) e Chris Traynor (basso).
L’album è stato prodotto da Hamilton, con la collaborazione di Toshi Kasai (Melvins) e Mark Renk.
Nel 1989, Page Hamilton è stato il co-fondatore dei newyorkesi Helmet, che all’epoca spingevano la loro ispirazione verso la fusion di riff alla Led Zeppelin con una veemente precisione post-hardcore, amplificata da accordi profondi e densi e una ritmica offbeat basata sulla formazione jazz di Hamilton.
La combinazione di questi elementi ha creato un sound visionario e unico.
La libertà espressiva di “Seeing Eye Dog” deriva anche da esperienze negative del passato della band, episodi di forti interferenze da parte delle label.
“After that, I said, I built this thing and this is the way it is,” dice Hamilton “Fortunately, those experiences ended up helping me
maintain a singular attitude that’s really conducive to writing rock songs.”

Drawing on a wide range of influences, LaFaro have a raucous and relentless sound that at times has been likened to Sonic Youth, Mclusky and The Jesus Lizard.
2010 has so far seen LaFaro complete six weeks of riff-filled, blistering shows in the UK before the release of their debut album
