Gli Slackers hanno iniziato nel 1991 a New York City e nel 1996 il NY Times li ha dichiarati “part of the New York sound”. Dopo diversi anni a suonare show in piccoli locali della zona, hanno sfondato con il loro secondo album “Red Light”, pubblicato con la Epitaph nel 1997. Nel corso della carriera la band ha poi pubblicato 10 album full length in studio, 3 album live, 2 EP e sono apparsi in numerose compilation.
Allo stesso tempo hanno mantenuto uno standard di concerti live altissimo, che conta almeno 100/120 spettacoli all’anno, da oltre 14 anni, diventando così una delle band culto della musica rock in levare. Con una grande popolarità in un sacco di posti in giro per il mondo, gli Slackers viaggiano e si fanno nuovi amici in ogni città che toccano, ampliando così il proprio seguito dopo ogni show.
Dal loro primo album “Better Late Than Never” del 1996 gli Slackers si sono infatti affermati come uno dei gruppi tra i migliori interpreti del genere e tra gli innovatori della musica giamaicana. La loro ultima fatica, l’EP “My Bed Is A Boat” è stata registrata nello studio di Victor ‘Ticklah’ Axelrod (Antibalas, Dap Kings) a Brooklyn e rappresenta un ritorno alle radici della band, suffragato dall’uso del nastro analogico nella registrazione delle tracce base. Si preannuncia quindi una serata da non perdere quella che vede sul palco di sPAZIO211 questi paladini del suono in levare!

For more than 27 years, the NYC-based and critically acclaimed Slackers have been touring the world with their blend of Ska, Reggae, and Soul.
Since the early 1990s, the Slackers have released fifteen records and countless singles while their live performances feed their fans with their energetic sets of ecstatic music. And the press agrees: Modern Vinyl says “For some bands, hitting 25 years together seems light years away. For The Slackers, it’s a cause for celebration. The band is deeply rooted within the ska movement, while their self-proclaimed “Jamaican Rock n’ Roll” sound sets them apart from many bands today.
Other press state that the Slackers are “the best ska band in the world” (Rude International), “the pick of the US crop” (Metal Hammer), “the sound of New York’ (New York Times), “is about as close to perfect as it gets” (Ink 19), and “one of the best bands in the United States” (axs.com).
Their festival performances have included Punk Rock Bowling, Fest Florida, Boomtown Fair, Santa Monica Pier Twilight Concert Series, Rebellion Fest, Summerjam, Mighty Sounds, Ruhrpott Rodeo, Shamballa, Pouzza Fest, Montreal Jazz Festival, Austin Reggae Fest, Dour Fest, Lowlands, and many others.
Their headline dates include venues such as a 3-night stand at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, Slim’s in San Francisco, House of Blues in Anaheim, Irving Plaza in NYC, a 2 night stand at the Bell House in Brooklyn, 3-night stand at Reggie’s in Chicago, and a 3-night stand at the Flamingo Cantina in Austin.
